Hydromed colloidis a sterile, self-adhesive hydrocolloid dressing with rounded edges, designed to support the healing process of skin wounds. The dressing is laminated with a semipermeable polyurethane outer film, which allows the passage of water vapour and excess moisture while remaining impermeable to bacteria, thus protecting the wound from infection. Hydromed Colloid forms a gel upon absorption of wound exudate, creating a favourable microenvironment for tissue granulation and epithelialisation. The 0.3 mm thickness version has a lower absorption capacity, making it particularly suitable for use during the epithelialisation phase. The formation of the gel prevents the dressing from adhering to the wound, allowing atraumatic removal without pain and without damaging granulation tissue or newly formed epithelium. The absence of animal gelatin reduces the risk of allergies and associated odours, while the high absorption capacity helps control excessive exudate, extending dressing change intervals. The transparent nature of Hydromed Colloid also allows direct visual inspection of the wound without removing the dressing.
